Part of the magic of the holiday season is the lighthearted sparkle and twinkle of lights. Multi-colored or white lights, indoors or outdoors, with or without a metal frame that, in the dark of night, looks just like Santa, a reindeer, or snowman, they all lift our spirits and make us smile.
The Roper Mountain Science Center is hosting its annual Holiday Lights spectacular from Thanksgiving through December 30. In what has become a very popular holiday tradition, Roper Mountain opens its gates each evening from 6-10PM and invites Upstate residents to take the 1.5-mile tour of the property in the warmth of their cars and enjoy a breathtaking drive through the natural setting of the Science Center. With over 200,000 lights and 100 towering light displays making up the month-long event, animation and landscape lighting add to the one-of-a-kind light show and complement the brilliant displays of lights.
Over 18,000 vehicles took part in the festivities last year. Participants can see many displays, including a bright and shining 45-foot star over Greenville, a tunnel of lights, an animated snowball fight, and Candy Cane Lane, among many others. The cost is $10 per car, minivan, or SUV, $15 per activity van, and $20 for buses. Roper Mountain Holiday Lights is open each night from 6-10 PM, November 22 through December 30. The Roper Mountain Holiday Lights event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Greenville and the Roper Mountain Science Center Association. Holiday Lights proceeds benefit Roper Mountain Science Center Association and the Rotary Club of Greenville Charities. The Roper Mountain Science Center is located off I-385 at Exit 37 (Roper Mountain Road); cross over the Interstate bridge and the entrance is the second road on the right.
