Richloom Opening Plant in Laurens County; Creating 275 New Jobs

RichLoom Fabrics, a manufacturer of home furnishing fabrics and home products, announced today that it has purchased the former CMI Bailey plant located in Clinton. Richloom also operates plants in Lancaster and Ware Shoals, SC. The company plans to begin distribution operations by late February and expand into manufacturing by late spring. They plan to have a workforce of 275 employees by the end of 2003. Many of the jobs will be transferred from other locations. The capital investment is unavailable.

According to Marvin Moss, President/CEO of the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, Richlooms announcement couldnt have come at a better time. Moss said, The City of Clinton has been hit especially hard over the past eighteen months with the closing of CMI. To be able to bring a textile related company into the community that can offer the people impacted by CMIs closing an opportunity to work in a similar environment is very exciting.

Richloom has established a reputation of high quality production and delivering orders on schedule in the furnishing fabrics market, and is utilized by most furniture manufactures in the U. S. The fact that they need to expand their production capacity during a period of slow economic growth is reflective of Richlooms position in its market and the demand it is experiencing for its products.

Ernie Segars, County Administrator, added, The County is pleased that a textile company chose to locate in Clinton at the Bailey Plant. There is an excellent pool of textile workers in the county that should be a great asset for the company. This is the second major announcement of an industry locating in the county in the past two weeks. We hope this is a sign that economic conditions are improving."

According to Clinton City Manager Sam Bennett, The City of Clinton is very excited that Richloom is moving into the community. Clinton has a rich tradition of textiles and Richloom will find a well-prepared workforce and a positive business environment he said. We will make sure their move to Clinton is a prosperous one for the company.
