Greenville Grrrowl Announces Great Changes for Upcoming Season; Greenville.com Exclusive Internet Sponsor

The Greenville Grrrowl, Greenvilles hometown ice hockey team and member of the ECHL, has announced some game night upgrades for the upcoming season, as well as an administrative personnel change. The moves are part of a restructuring of the organization that will re-energize the game experience for the many loyal hockey fans in the Upstate.

In the front office, Bryon Rucker has been named Executive Vice President/General Manager of ScheerSports, Inc. and the Greenville Grrrowl. Rucker will oversee day-to-day operations on the administrative level, including all public/media relations responsibilities. He will continue to work directly with John Marks (Vice President of Hockey Operations/Head Coach) to structure all elements of the on-ice hockey operation. Rucker has been with ScheerSports in several capacities since January 1997.

Earlier this year, the Grrrowl announced a major change in the seating configuration and capacity to bring the fans closer to the action in the BI-LO Center. Beginning with the upcoming 2003-04 season, a total of 7,479 seats will be available only in the lower bowl, as well as the first two rows of the upper bowl. This is a reduction in the official capacity for hockey games in the facility, and will contribute to the excitement and energy level during all 36 home games.

In an effort to enhance the atmosphere for the fans, the popular Ethan Wade will return to the ice in an entertainment role. Along with his responsibilities in the Grrrowl ticket department, Ethan directs all gameday operations for the Grrrowl, and, prior to last season, had spent the first four years of the Grrrowl existence entertaining fans on a nightly basis along with the IceDawgs. Ethans unique gift of showmanship is something that we missed last year, and we know that all Grrrowl fans will enjoy his return to the ice, said Byron Rucker, EVP/GM of ScheerSports.

The Grrrowl will be pumping up the game experience for Upstate fans this season with some noticeable additions and improvements, including

  • Enhanced gameday scorecard information and production
  • More entertainment for the fans in the concourse and in the arena from the time the doors open until the last horn
  • New and exciting nightly fan interactive fames and contests
  • Re-vamped player introductions and pre-game festivities
  • Enhanced video and audio production Greenville is fortunate indeed to be the only market anywhere in the western Carolinas to be the hometown of a professional ice hockey team. Ice hockey has proven to be a very popular ice sport in Greenville, with Greenville Countys Pavilion ice rink providing an excellent venue for young fans to learn to play the game and participate in recreational ice hockey leagues.

There will be plenty of other fun and exciting changes to Grrrowl home games as the season opener gets closer.

The Grrrowl has released the 2003-04 schedule, and will begin its sixth home slate on October 24 against the Charlotte Checkers; game time is 7:05 PM. Greenville Grrrowl season tickets, mini-plans, and flex packs are on sale now. Fans can call 864-467-GRRR or log on to www.grrrowl.com for more information.

The Greenville Grrrowl and Greenville.com recently (and happily) came to an agreement that makes Greenville.com the proud Internet sponsor for the Greenville Grrrowl. Upstate ice hockey fans will now be able to follow the Grrrowl throughout their season with regular updates, interesting articles, ticket give-aways, and links to the Grrrowls web site.
