Greenville County Schools and the South Carolina School Boards Association are celebrating School Board Recognition Month in January. Greenville�s 12 School Board members, along with more than 630 board members throughout the state, will be recognized by schools and communities for their service and dedication to public education. The theme of this year�s celebration, �School Boards Speak Out for Public Schools,� reflects the combined commitment of school boards to lead and advocate for academic excellence and accountability in public schools to ensure that all students achieve. Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees members often hold leadership positions outside the district. Chuck Saylors (Area 20) is serving as President of the National PTA and as legislative liaison to the SCSBA BLC/FRN; Danna Rohleder (Area 21) is serving the SCSBA as Region 15 Director and as liaison to the SCSBA Board; Lynda Leventis-Wells (Area 22) serves as liaison to Communities in Schools; Megan Hickerson (Area 24) serves as liaison to Graduate Greenville and Public Education Partners; Leola Robinson-Simpson (Area 25) serves as liaison to the NSBA National Affiliate Advocacy Network; Tommie Reece (Area 17) chairs the Board Advocacy Committee, while Crystal Ball O�Connor (Area 27), Mrs. Robinson-Simpson, and Mr. Saylors serve as ex-officio members; Debi Bush (Area 19) and Pat Sudduth (Area 18) serve as liaisons to the Coordinated School Health Advisory Council; and Lisa Wells (Area 28) serves as liaison to the Roper Mountain Science Center Association. Greenville County School Board members develop policies and make tough decisions on complex educational and social issues impacting the entire community. The School Board oversees the governance of a school district that serves about 70,000 students. The members of Greenville County Schools� Board of Trustees are:
