Dan Scott has been named the new "Voice of the Furman Paladins," it was announced by Chuck Hussion, athletic marketing/general manager for IMG College.
Scott replaces Hussion, who served as Furman's "Voice" for 17 seasons prior to accepting his new position with IMG this spring. "I can't say how grateful I am to Furman University for this opportunity and to Chuck Hussion for his faith in me," said Scott. "I just hope I can live up to the standard he set for all those years in the Furman broadcast booth." "Division I broadcasting jobs are so hard to come by, and goodness knows there were many, many qualified candidates out there. Needless to say, I'm excited for the opportunity. I hope that my passion for the job will come through and Paladin fans will enjoy our broadcasts. I'm looking forward to expanding the relationships I already have with many at Furman University."
"We're very pleased to have Dan Scott as our new "Voice," said Furman director of athletics Gary Clark. "He has a well-established, highly respected reputation in sports broadcasting and brings tremendous knowledge and an infectious enthusiasm to his craft. We're thrilled to have him as part of our team." Scott, 44, has worked as daily host of his own 9:00 a.m.-Noon weekday morning show on Upstate radio station WCCP-FM since Feb. 2001, and over the last four years has made Furman coaches part of his weekly interview slate. Since 2004 he has served the Clemson Tiger Sports Network in numerous capacities, including baseball, The Fifth Quarter Show, Tiger Tailgate Show, and guest host of coaches shows. In addition he has served as play-by-play voice of WCCP exclusive broadcasts of Clemson baseball and women's basketball, and is a 12-year veteran of Upstate high school football broadcasts on WCCP. He will continue his show with WCCP and its coverage of Clemson, as well as expanded coverage of Furman. "I also want to thank the folks at Clemson University for giving me the opportunity to broadcast Tiger baseball and women's basketball for the past seven seasons, particularly Billy D'Andrea and Tim Match. Their support has been invaluable. Also thanks to Rob Stockhausen, head of the Clemson Tiger Sports Network, and certainly to WCCP general manager Chris Downey for allowing me to pursue the opportunity while still continuing my daily talk show." Scott began his radio career in 1985 in his hometown of Williamson, W.Va., working as news and sports director at WBTH/WXCC, one of which was a 50,000-watt FM. He later spent 10 years in the newspaper business as a writer and sports editor for numerous publications in West Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio, winning numerous press association awards during that stretch, including two Best Sports Page citations from the West Virginia Press Association.
