The Upstate's Dorman High School Wins State Football Championship 31-24.

Dorman High School won the South Carolina state football championship on Saturday, December 2, 2000, at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina. The Cavaliers defeated the Lexington Wildcats 31-24 in a thrilling, come-from-behind victory.

Last year Dorman High School reached the state's championship game, but they were not able to bring home the state title to the Upstate. This year, Dorman brought home the championship.

In this year's state championship game, Dorman High found itself trailing 24-0 with eight minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Cavaliers then reeled off 31 unanswered points to claim the state championship.

Dorman scored the final touchdown on a 15-yard run by quarterback Trey Rogers with seven seconds remaining in the game. The comeback was as exciting as it was improbable. The Cavaliers had been completely dominated throughout the first half by Lexington, and when the Wildcats kicked a field goal with eight minutes remaining in the third quarter, it did not appear that Dorman was going to stage a comeback to overcome a 24-point deficit.

However, Dorman's football team simply refused to lose. The Cavaliers scored on a 1-yard run by Jack Ross to finally get on the scoreboard. They were successful on the two-point conversion and trailed 24-8. Dorman quickly score another touchdown, and, with another successful two-point conversion, trailed 24-16 at the end of the third quarter.

Rogers broke a 59-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to tie the score 24-24. Both teams failed to score for the remainder of the fourth quarter until Rogers scored on a 15-yard run with six seconds remaining on the clock.

Congratulations to Dorman High School, the 2000 South Carolina State Football Champions.
