Emergency Bridge Repairs to Begin in Early 2025

Two bridges damaged during Hurricane Helene will be part of an accelerated South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) replacement schedule.

Engineering Director Clint Link said the state must complete the work in the next year to qualify for FEMA disaster reimbursement funding. Work will begin early in 2025

Both bridges have been closed since late September, when flooding following the hurricane eroded their foundations. The Hudson Street bridge, near Unity Park, will be replaced with improvements to the approaches of the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail. The Washington Street bridge, in the Southernside neighborhood, will be widened in anticipation of future bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
