Greenlink will begin a phased plan to extend the service hours for its fixed routes in December.
Effective Tuesday, December 1, the following routes will operate from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday:
- 502: White Horse
- 503: Poinsett
- 504: Anderson
- 507: Augusta
Saturday service hours will not change.
Greenlink expects to phase in later service hours for the remaining routes in early 2021; however, additional bus drivers are still needed to make this possible. To help fill these positions, Greenlink is now offering a Bus Operator in Training program.
Greenlink’s Transit Development Plan (TDP), which was adopted in 2018, identifies a series of improvements that would make the Greenlink bus system more useful to Greenville County residents. The plan outlines improvements that can be implemented using a phased approach and the first step prioritized in the TDP is to extend evening service on weekdays.
According to Public Transit Director James Keel, the TDP is a roadmap for Greenlink’s future enhancements. “Currently, Greenlink’s last weekday trip departs the Transit Center at 6:30 p.m. With service ending so early, our riders are limited when it comes to employment opportunities, errands and other essential trips, and visiting with friends or family,” said Keel. “We’re excited that both Greenville County and the City of Greenville recognize the importance of expanding transit, as this improvement would not be possible without support and funding from County Council and City Council.”
