Greenlink is offering a new monthly pass through its electronic TouchPass ticketing system, which allows customers to pay their bus fare using a reloadable smart card or smartphone app.
Customers can now use their TouchPass smart card or smartphone app to purchase a 31-day unlimited ride pass for $50 (full fare); $42 (student/youth fare) or $25 (senior/Medicare/disability fare).
According to George Campbell, the Greenville Transit Authority (GTA) board chair, Greenlink is introducing the new fare product in response to frequent customer requests for this type of pass. “We believe the pass will make the boarding process simpler by eliminating the need to purchase transfer tickets. The TouchPass system will also reduce the expense for our frequent customers by capping the maximum amount a passenger spends on fares each month through a new Fare Cap policy,” said Campbell.
With the Fare Cap, if a customer who cannot purchase a 31-day pass up front continues to use TouchPass to pay for individual trips, the system will cap the amount they spend at the 31-day pass price that they are eligible for. For example, if a full fare customer continues to pay $1.50 per trip and $0.50 per transfer, once they spend $50, they will not be charged for any additional rides within the calendar month.
TouchPass smart cards are available at the Greenlink dispatch booth inside the downtown Transit Center (100 W. McBee Avenue). The 31-day pass can be loaded onto the smart card at the dispatch booth with cash, a credit card or a debit card. Registering the smart card online also allows fares to be purchased with credit or debit cards at www.TouchPass.com. Smartphone users may choose to purchase fares directly within the TouchPass app, which can be downloaded by searching for “TouchPass Transit” in the iOS or Android app store, using a credit or debit card.
