Greenville Symphony Orchestra Presents Strauss Squared

Who thinks two Strausses aren’t better than one? The “King of Waltzes,” Johann Strauss, meets the great orchestra composer and conductor, Richard Strauss, in a performance bursting with unbridled power and sparkling joy.

Concert goers can expect to hear “Ein Heldenleben” (“A Hero’s Life”) by R. Strauss as well as assorted overtures, waltzes, polkas, and galops by J. Strauss.

Edvard Tchivzhel will serve as the conductor. Long before he was Greenville Symphony Orchestra’s Maestro (or one at all) — and long before a month-long musical tour with the U.S.S.R. State Symphony Orchestra brought him to Greenville — Edvard Tchivzhel got his first exposure to the American music scene: a recording of Duke Ellington’s “Take the A Train” on the U.S. government-funded radio broadcast “Voice of America.” He has conducted all over the world; aside from Russia and several orchestras he has conducted in the U.S., he has appeared in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Finland, England, Romania, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, China, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela and more.

Performances take place this Saturday, March 2 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, March 3 at 3:00 pm at The Peace Center. Tickets are $19 – $75.
